About the event

Don't go stir crazy! Join us for a virtual clay class and learn how to bring a lump of clay to life with Becky Zee! This class will take you on a whirlwind tour of her process in which you will learn a basic pottery technique called “pinch pot” construction. Next, you will learn how to turn that pinch pot into a basic critter body and add all the details that you can think of to create your own whimsical wonder. The only limit is your imagination; does your critter have scales? What about a huge spiky tail? Curly swirly horns? Three eyes? Shaggy hair? If you can dream it, Becky Zee will help you make it come alive! Kids are welcome (with adult present for assistance)!

All creations will be made of air-dry clay. Once it's dry, you can paint it and bring it to life. Paints are included in your kit. Class fee includes one set of supplies and tools needed to bring your critter to life. We will deliver materials and tools to your home! All YOU need to bring is your imagination.

Kits include:

  • One container of air-dry clay
  • One set of sculpting tools
  • One pallet of acrylic paint with 3 colors
  • One paint brush

***Additional kits available for purchase $20 each so you can create as a family!

Meet Arrow Instructor, Becky Zee

A life-long love affair with clay began when Becky sat down at her first potter’s wheel in the 7th grade. She made lots of muddy lumps, but not too many recognizable pots. Undaunted, she resolved to one day become a good potter. Over the 25 years that followed, she took classes, hoarded pottery equipment, and jumped on every clay-related opportunity that came her way. Today, she proudly runs her own ceramics studio in Memphis, TN.

Becky embraces the imperfections in her thrown work and plays it to her advantage in her creative process. Her loose, carefree style and wacky sense of humor gives each one of her “critters” that unique spark of life that makes you grin every time you see them.
