Our Mission
Dorothy Collier is the mixed media artist of Dorothy Art. With a strong background in retail, promoting and selling her work comes naturally for Collier, leading to sales in private collections and retailers throughout the southeast. Collier received a B.A. in Studio Art and Psychology from the University of Mississippi in 2009 and her MAT in Art Education at the University of Memphis in 2011. Formerly a middle school art teacher for Shelby County Schools, Collier loves engaging in the classroom setting and thrives when creativity is flowing and when active, hands-on learning is taking place. In early 2017 Collier co-founded the Rising Tide Society’s Memphis chapter, now a local group of over 900 creatives. The Rising Tide Society provides resources for the empowered creative economy and the Tuesdays Together programming provides a space for creative entrepreneurs to come together in the spirit of community over competition. In May of 2017, Collier launched Positively Creative, a podcast for creative entrepreneurs that she hosts weekly, interviewing artists, makers, and other small creative business owners who are on paths of success in their creative field. In its short time on air, Positively Creative has already hit the #9 and #5 spots in iTunes Design. Positively Creative has now expanded into the Summit and Series held each Fall for creative entrepreneurs.
Abby Elzemeyer Phillips founded Elzemeyer Talent Agency in the spring of 2008 at the age of 25 and expanded the agency to cover the entire Southern region, booking talent in film, TV, commercials and print. During her time as a local agent, she was the casting director on three feature films in the Memphis area, taught acting classes for local talent, and served as the chair of the Memphis chapter of the Association for the Future of Film and Television. In 2012, Phillips' agency merged with MACS/AMAX agency out of Nashville, Tennessee and in the same year she created the first Memphis Fashion Week, which continues to happen annually in the Spring. She was the founder of the non-profit Memphis Fashion Design Network (MFDN), which has now become Arrow. MFDN works to educate, cultivate and promote the local fashion industry. MFDN is housed on Flicker Street at The Lab, a shared studio and educational space for the local industry, created by Phillips and now used as the beta test for Arrow. Via the non-profit, she has built the curriculum, recruited teachers and secured equipment for the continuing education Fashion Design Program at Memphis College of Art. These efforts are currently funded by Memphis Fashion Week events. Abby has been involved in the community for many years with such organizations as Leadership Memphis, Junior League of Memphis, and The Memphis Advertising Federation.
The two founding members of Arrow are women with a background in the arts as working artists and educators and who have a passion for innovative thinking in Memphis. As a result, they are uniquely qualified to bring this project to fruition.
Support over 125 creative entrepreneurs by helping provide studio space with sales channels for additional sources of income, access to needed business resources and exposure to an expanded community for continued business growth.
Arrow is a 501c3 non-profit.
